Imagine 2050. Downtown city center extends down Austin Ave. across the Brazos River down Elm St. There's courtyards and fountains, mass transportation in the form of trolleys, bike lanes, pedestrian areas with shops and an open-air market--business is thriving. There's apartments, duplexes, and houses interspersed. Singles, families, and retirees gather in the central area that is Downtown Waco.
On Thursday, the once again called out to Waco residents. They revealed their revised plan for Waco's Downtown region. It's a plan that builds on Waco's assets--a riverfront, and the 1920's architectural character of current downtown establishments.
Over a year in the works, this plan is only the first step of a decades long vision for Waco. Larry Groth Waco's City Manager said he's been happy with the community's interest and involvement along the way--and he's said the project is continuing to look on ways to improve.
A final vision will be presented to the city council for approval in October.
