Baylor Professor Explores Colleges' Moral Development Role

The old image of higher education, molding young men and women into people of character and judgment in addition to knowledge has slowly been changing over the last two centuries.

Perry Glanzer is an associate professor of education at Baylor, and is part of the Institute for Church-State Studies. Along with professor Todd Ream, he co-authored the recently-released book "Christianity and Moral Identity in Higher Education." Glanzer says that the multitude of religious and secular views of character has led colleges to focus more on vocational training and the dispensing of knowledge, rather than moral development. He uses the example of a movie one doesn't associate with moral character to make a point on how the academy has changed.
