Last week the Army announced that it would cut 40,000 troops throughout several domestic bases over the next 2 years.

Fort Hood – which is home to one of the nation’s largest military populations – will see the second-most of those cuts, loosing 3,350 soldiers, which accounts for about 9 percent of the base’s active duty population. Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas is set to lose 1,219 soldiers.

These cuts come as a cost-savings effort.

In a press release on Thursday the Army said they have to “operate within the budget provided” and that part of that includes “restructuring and reorganizing.”

The Army’s also said if sequestration continues, they may move forward with another round of cuts in 2019, shrinking to about 420,000 Soldiers.
