Four people have died in a helicopter crash at Fort Hood, according to U.S. Army officials. In a statement, the Fort Hood public affairs office said the UH-60 helicopter crashed yesterday sometime after 5:49 p.m.

John Miller, a media relations specialist with Fort Hood, says the crew was on a routine training mission.

“The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, a board will be assigned to investigate the incident," Miller said. "The names of the deceased will not be released until 24 hours after the next-of-kin have been notified.”

According to the ArmyTimes this was the second helicopter crash suffered by the Army on Monday. Gov. Greg Abbott issued a statement, offering his condolences to the families of the four soldiers.

“Cecilia and I extend our sincerest condolences to the families of the four soldiers who tragically lost their lives in preparation for defending our country. Whether at home or abroad, our soldiers put their lives on the line every day to secure the freedoms we hold dear in Texas and the United States of America. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and with the military community at Fort Hood during this difficult time"

There are no other details at this time.
