Hewitt Park to Add Amphitheater Come Fall

The City of Hewitt continues construction on a restoration project in one of the city’s Parks. City officials say the $200,000 amphitheater will work  as music venue and potentially become a wedding destination.

Adam Miles is the city manager for Hewitt. He says the new amphitheater, including several other renovations, are part of the attempt to revitalize the park.

“We really studied and looked at it and said, “Why aren’t people coming over here?”  A lot of it is just it’s not that well known, but then when you look at the facilities we had, they weren’t exactly that great," Miles said.

Miles says that the city had been looking to update the Park for a couple of years now. The city has funded new renovations to the park, including an updated playground and "smaller improvements to the appearance", through a 2014 bond project. Miles says, in total they’ll spend about $500,000 over the next couple years in park improvements.

“This amphitheater is kind of a big step for us and we’re really excited because it’s kind of opening some doors to things we hadn’t really originally thought about," Miles says.

That includes using the amphitheater space as a wedding venue. In addition, there will also be an area for food trucks.
