Tonight representatives from the Texas Department of Transportation, the City of Waco and Baylor University will “flip the switch” as they host a public dedication for the lighting system that's been installed on the Interstate 35 access road bridges.

The $500,000-system was tested for a little more than 3 months. Officials worked out the kinks and tested the LED system that's meant to welcome visitors to Waco during this time. Ken Roberts is with TXDOT…

"The public has seen the lights on from time to time in various states of completion," Roberts said. "At this point we are prepared with the full array of colors and patterns that will be available for the city and the university to use."

Roberts says the city will operate and maintain the light system. A specialized committee, composed of representatives from the city and Baylor, will have say in the lighting displays for special events. And yes, gold and green are part of the light system.

The ceremony begins tonight at 8:30 in the parking lot of McLane stadium.
