Today Blue Bell Creameries announced that Texas businessman and investor Sid Bass has made a “significant investment” with the company.

The announcement comes during a time when Blue Bell remains uncertain of exactly when their ice cream will return to store shelves.

“The additional capital will ensure the successful return of our ice cream to the market and our loyal customers," Paul Kruse, Blue Bell CEO and President, said in a press release Tuesday.

Bass, who is active in his family’s oil and gas business, said he’s excited to join Blue Bell and believes that “quality is the principle attribute that ensures the success, growth and longevity of a business.”

Last week Blue Bell announced it was planning test production runs at its Alabama plant, but said there wasn’t an exact date for when that trial run might begin.

In April, the company halted its operations to look into a listeria outbreak at their plants. Since then more than 1,400 Blue Bell employees have been laid off.
