The Waco Police Department have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that took place this weekend.

Thirty-eight-year-old Ernest James Blanco was shot in neck area and pronounced dead at the scene. According to Police spokesperson Sgt. Patrick Swanton, shortly before 10 p-m on Saturday, officers responded to the 700 block of Frost after having received a call about a “discharge of firearms.

“As the officers got there they found a vehicle parked in the roadway that had obviously been in a little bit of a crash. What we believed happened, the vehicle ended up hitting a telephone pole," Swanton said.

Police believe Blanco was in his car at the time of the shooting. Swanton says no arrests have been made as of yet, but officials do have a person of interest in the case, who could have more information on what happened.

“We don’t believe this is a random event," Swanton said. "Obviously, we can’t talk a whole lot about why without giving details of the case away but we do not fear the public, necessarily, has anything to fear from the shooter involved in this case.”

The investigation is ongoing.
