This month, Fort Hood began a specialized court that provides veterans who commit a misdemeanor on the post with the opportunity to avoid a federal conviction, if they can successfully complete treatment and counseling courses.

Veterans Day was this week and to remember those who have served in the armed forces we'll be hearing from 86-year-old Allen Smith, a resident of Elm Mott.  Smith, an African-American, rose through the Air Force ranks during a time when many were still flighting for their civil rights. Interviewing Smith is his son Michael Smith, whose wife found his father’s medals and diplomas hidden away in a closet.

Behind the Story: The Return of Local Microbreweries

This week in Behind the Story we talk about local microbreweries. In July KWBU aired a story about the gradual return of local craft beer to the Heart of Texas. In 2012, the microbrewery industry represented an economic impact of $2.3 billion in the state. Here in town Bare Arms Brewery is contributing to that growth and in the coming months Brotherwell Brewing will join them.
