After 42 Years, Garrison Keillor Retires from Prairie Home

After more than 40 years hosting A Prairie Home Companion, Garrison Keillor is going into semi-retirement. His final show will air on KWBU this Saturday at 5 p.m. with the encore airing this Sunday at 11 a.m.

Garrison's final Prairie Home – recorded at the Hollywood Bowl – will feature duet singing from Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O'Donovan, Heather Masse, and Christine DiGiallonardo. This week’s guests will join Keillor for “American ballads, British Invasion romps, country-western weepers, and Broadway classics, guaranteed to send him off to radio retirement in style.”

Keillor will continue to host The Writer’s Almanac. Repeats of the program, with Keillor as host will be broadcast through October 8th.

Chris Thile will take over as host of A Prairie Home Companion starting October 15.
